StoryTail (ABN 44 142 063 217) is an Australian business that generates personalised, AI-narrated audio stories for children. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our users and complying with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following personal information:

• Account information: Your email address, and a password if you create an account with one.
• Sign-in information: If you sign in with Google or Microsoft, we receive your email address, name and profile picture from that provider. We never receive your password.
• Payment information: Processed securely by Stripe. We do not store your credit card details.
• Story preferences: The child's first name, age, adventure type, companion details, and story theme that you provide when creating a story.
• Usage data: Stories generated, credits used, and subscription status.
• Technical data: IP address, browser type, and device information collected automatically when you use our service.

3. Signing In with Google or Microsoft

You can create a StoryTail account using Sign in with Google or Sign in with Microsoft. When you do, we receive only your basic profile information from that provider — your email address, your name, and your profile picture. We never receive your password, and we do not request access to your email, contacts, calendar, files, or any other data held in your Google or Microsoft account.

We use this information solely to create and secure your StoryTail account, to identify you when you return, and to address you by name in the app and in the emails we send you.

StoryTail's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not sell this information, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not transfer it to third parties except as needed to provide the service, comply with the law, or as part of a merger or acquisition with equivalent privacy protections.

We never use information received from Google APIs to develop, improve, or train generalised artificial intelligence or machine learning models. You can disconnect StoryTail from your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

4. Children's Privacy

StoryTail is a service for adults to create stories about children — it is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 18.

You must be 18 years or older to create an account. The child's first name and age that you provide when generating a story is used solely to personalise the story content and is associated with your adult account — not stored as a separate child profile.

If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us at support@storytail.com.au and we will delete it promptly.

5. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide and personalise the StoryTail service
• Generate AI audio stories using the details you provide
• Process payments and manage your subscription
• Send you your completed story MP3 files by email
• Respond to your support requests
• Improve the quality and safety of our service
• Comply with our legal obligations

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

6. AI-Generated Content

StoryTail uses artificial intelligence services to generate story text, audio narration, and cover artwork. The details you provide (child's name, adventure type, companion, and theme) are sent to these services solely for the purpose of generating your story.

We use the following AI service providers:

• Anthropic (Claude): Story text generation
• Google (Gemini): Audio narration and sound effects
• ElevenLabs: Character voices and narration
• fal.ai: Cover image generation

All story content is subject to automated safety filtering to ensure it is appropriate for children before delivery.

7. Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party services to operate StoryTail:

• Supabase: Database, authentication and file storage (servers in USA)
• Stripe: Payment processing (PCI-DSS compliant)
• Resend: Transactional email delivery
• Brevo: Account and lifecycle email delivery
• Vercel: Website hosting
• PostHog: Product analytics — how the service is used
• Sentry: Error monitoring and diagnostics

Some of these services store data outside Australia. By using StoryTail you consent to your information being transferred to and processed in other countries, including the United States.

8. Data Retention

We retain your account information and generated stories for as long as your account is active. If you close your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it (e.g. financial records which we retain for 7 years as required by Australian law).

Generated story audio files and cover images are stored in our secure file storage and are accessible only through your account.

9. Your Rights

Under the Australian Privacy Act, you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Complain about a breach of the Australian Privacy Principles

10. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access. This includes encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), secure password hashing, and row-level security on our database. However, no internet transmission is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Complaints

If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles, please contact us first at support@storytail.com.au. We will investigate and respond within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by displaying a notice on our website. Continued use of StoryTail after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
